Mondello

Cheryl finished 5th after qualifying 2nd in a qualifying session.The qualifying session came about after fog delayed the running of the meeting.The two heats were cancelled and a qualifying session was brought in instead.
Cheryl qualifyed a superb second with Kevin Lacey securing pole.

In the final Cheryl dropped back to 5th as she was on the outside and could nt get on the inside for the first corner.
A group of 5 broke away from Cheryl and she couldnt catch them.
Kevin Lacey won the race deservedly but was disqualifyed on a small technical infringment.
cheryl moved up to 5th and Patrick Mckenna claimed the win.

Portumna



Cork

Cheryl finished 


Equal 4th place in Tynagh

Cheryl finished joint 4th in Portumna.She set
the fastest lap in one of the heats and in the final.Cheryl and Micheal Slein crossed the line at the exact same time to both finish 4th overall.
Patrick MacKenna took a well deserved win.

In heat 1 Cheryl started 17th and finished 7th after battling through the field setting the fastest lap along the way.

In heat 2 Cheryl started 3rd on the grid but
the pole man braked hard in the middle of the first corner and Cheryl spun.She got going but
could only make up a few positions before the race end. 

The final was a hard fought race as Cheryl started  11th on the grid.A group of 5 broke away in the first few laps as Cheryl ,Niall Quinn
and Kevin Lacey diced.cheryl passed Quinn with 4 laps to go and made a break reeling in the leaders who were about ten kart lenghts a head.On the 2nd last lap Cheryl was on the rear of the group and passed Johnny Magee for 5th.
On the last corner of the last lap Cheryl went up Sleins inside on the last corner and they raced to the line , crossing at the exact same time.

C plate

Cheryl finished a great 5th in the Zepro Race of Champions held in Mondello.
All week-end Cheryl was on the pace and
only 5 tenths seperated the to six as Johnny Magee from Dublin won the race to the line to become C plate champ.

7th Again

Cheryl finished  7th in Cork after starting 12th despite an intense battle with Dean Jones who claimed 6th place.
The race was won by Ronan Hickey who claimed his first and well deserved
Rookie win.

In heat 1 cheryl was 6th on the grid and finished 4th as she moved up in the last few laps.

In heat 2 Cheryl started at the back of the grid and finished 10th which was not as good as she had hoped.

In heat 3 Cheryl was 14th on the grid and moved through the field right up to 3rd when her engine seized.

Irl

Cheryl came 7th in the final of the Irl in an uneventful race for her in which Micheal Slein won despite coming under intense pressure from Patrick McKenna.

Cheryl had qualified 8th on the grid for the final
after starting 14th for the prefinal after having two non finish's in the four heats.

Cheryl has DNF

Cheryl had a very disapointing weekend
in Portumna, the week after she so brilliantly
won the O plate.

In heat 1 Cheryl did not finish after her
CRG Maxter engine seized.

In heat 2 Cheryl collided with Micheal Slein
as they made their way through the field
and finished well down.

For the final Cheryl was sixteenth on the grid and she didnt even start the final due to carberetteur troubles.

Cheryl will be hoping for much better luck in two weeks time as she will be gunning to win the IRL plate to add to her O plate.

Cheryl wins O Plate

Cheryl won the O Plate in Watergrasshill, Cork
with a brilliant first win.In doing so, Cheryl gets to wear the coveted O plate on her kart for the rest of the season.The win was the cumulation
of five heats of hard work in which she ensured
3rd
place on the grid for the final.Cheryl drove consistently in the final from the start to win the O plate.

In Qualifying, which determines where you are to start on the grid for the heats, Cheryl got 5th but as every Rookie had to drop a heat due to big numbers Cheryl was 4th on the grid for the five heats.

In heat 1, Cheryl finished 5th in which she held her position for the whole race without being able to make any inroads on the leaders.

Cheryl dropped heat 2.

In heat  3 Cheryl was caught up in a first corner crash but was advancing through the field when
A black plate drove over the front of her.
This cost Cheryl badly and she ended up 12th.

In heat 4 Cheryl finished 6th.

In heat 5 Cheryl got 2nd as her and Jonathan battled but Jonathan mcCarthy succeded  in holding Cheryl off to win..

In heat 6 Cheryl grabbed 2nd again a she battled with David Donnelly for position with Micheal Slein winning.

Cheryl was 3rd on the grid for the final with Jonathan McCarthy on pole and Ross Maxwell
off-pole.Cheryl stuck up the back of McCarthy
into the first corner and shot out of his slipstream to secure the lead into the second corner.
Cheryl left the rest to fight over 2nd and 3rd as
she pulled away from the rest, consistently lapping  in the late 34 secs.
Cheryl pulled open a 5 second lead and when Sean Duffy broke away from the rest in second place he could do nothing to pull in Cheryl.
With the support of a large crowd behind her, she entered the last lap gaining on backmarkers.Coming into the third last corner,
Cheryl came up behind 3 backmarkers dicing and no blue flags waving. Cheryl picked through
them and passed the start finish line to secure her first ever win and the O Plate.Sean Duffy finished  one second behind Cheryl with Niall Quinn rounding off the Top Three.

Cheryl duly celebrated with a lap of honour by driving the track with the chequered flag.

Cheryl gets 8th

Cheryl finished 8th despite starting at the back of the grid for the final.

Cheryl had a DNF in the first race of the day.
Cheryl's chain came off in the first heat
after starting 4th on the grid.

In heat 2 Cheryl was 17th on the grid and
got through the pack to finish up 8th.

For the final Cheryl was 20th on the grid
after having the DNF in the first heat and
battled her way up to 8th to get vital point s for the championship.

Cheryl battles for 6th

Cheryl battled for 6th place in the RIAC round
which was also an mmc/cc championship.

In heat 1 Cheryl  was 19th on the grid and made a brilliant start.Cheryl cut through the field and with only 4 laps to go , another kart ran up on the back of Cheryl and she was forced to retire from 5th place.

In heat 2 Cheryl was 6th on the grid.
Cheryl made a good start and was initally
battling for 2nd and 3rd place but dropped back and finished up in 6th.

In heat 3 Cheryl was 8th on the grid and after an uneventful race she gained 2 places too finish
6th
overall.

After the DNF in the first heat Cheryl was back in 12th place with alot of work too do.
Cheryl made a solid start and after 4 laps she had made up 6 places but the leading pack led by Jonathan McCarthy were too far ahead.
Cheryl became engaged in a battle with 4 rival karts but despite persistant pressure she finished 6th overall.

Cheryl gets 4th in Portumna

Cheryl finished 4th in the second round of
the RIAC championship which was held in Portumna, Galway.

In heat 1 Cheryl was 5th on the grid and battled with the leaders to finish less than half a second behind the winner ,
Kevin Lacey to get 2nd place.

In heat 2 Cheryl started 18th on the grid
and finished up in 11th .

Cheryl started 5th on the grid for the final
and for most of the race Cheryl battled with Ronan Hickey .They worked together to catch the second and third place drivers.
Cheryl ended up finishing a good 4th and she is now looking foward to winning in Watergrasshill.

Cheryl comes 8th

In the first RIAC round of the season Cheryl finished 8th in Watergrasshill , Cork.The round was also an SKC round.

In heat 1 Cheryl started 5th but got punted off when attempting to overtake for 3rd place
on the second corner.Cheryl dropped back to last  and was making good progress through the field when she got hit  again ,
to eventually finish 16th.

In heat 2 Cheryl started 16th and made her
way through the field to finish 6th in the end.

In heat 3 Cheryl started 15th but got caught up in traffic and was blocked by a slower driver to finish up in 10th.

In the final Cheryl qualified 10th out of a grid of 27 karts. Cheryl made an average start but got held up for the most part of the race as she could not find a way around, but when she eventually did she pulled away and secured 8 th place.

Cheryl secures Podium Finish


Cheryl kicked off the 2001 season with a podium finish in which she secured 3rd place in the final of the IKC championship round in Watergrasshill, Cork.

In heat 1 Cheryl driving a Tonykart Mitox with Vortex engine finished a good 6th despite starting in 18th position and getting hit off on the 1st lap.
In heat 2 Cheryl was 7th on the grid and finished a great 2nd. After being held up Cheryl caught up with the 3 leaders and got into 2nd position.
Heat 3 was an uneventful heat for Cheryl as she finished 7th after starting on the 11th position of the grid.

Cheryl was off pole for the final out of a grid of 27 karts and was 3rd into the second corner.She was pushed back to 4th and was held up by a slower driver.Cheryl finally made her way past , but the leaders had opened up too big a gap by then.
For the remainder of the race Cheryl held off Dean Jones to secure 3rd position.
The race was won by pole-sitter Jonathon McCarthy.
Cheryl was very pleased with her top three finish but is looking at the top step of the podium for the next race which is an RIAC round and will be held again in Cork.
